The development of the retino-tectal projection in Rana pipiens☆
[摘要] Thedevelopmentoftheretino-tectalprojectioninRanapipienshasbeenstudiedbytheintraocularinjectionofsmallamountsof[3H]prolineatlateembryonicandatseverallarvalstages.Aftersurvivalperiodsvaryingfrom1–24hrthedistributionoftheradioactivelylabeledproteinsintheaxonsoftheretinalganglioncellswasstudiedautoradiographically.Itisevidentfromtheappearanceoflabeledproteinsintheopticnerveandchiasmatlateembryonicandearlylarvalstagesthatthereisarapidphaseofaxonaltransportatthesestagesandthatsomefractionofthematerialstransportedinthisphasearedistributedtothetipsofthegrowingaxons.ThefirstretinalfibersreachthecontralateraloptictectumatembryonicStage22;atthisstagetheyareconfinedtotherostrolateralportionofthetectumwherethefirsttectalneuronsaregenerated.Atsuccessivelylaterstagesthefibersappeartogrowacrossthesurfaceofthetectuminageneralrostrolateraltocaudomedialdirection,reachingthedorsalpartofthemid-tectumatlarvalStageIIandthelateralpartofitscaudalthirdbyStageV.However,itisnotuntilrelativelylatelarvalstages(XVIII)thatthefibersreachthecaudomedialregionofthetectum,anditisonlyatthetimeofmetamorphosis(StageXXV)thattheretinalprojectionappearstocovertheentiretectum.
