Fine structural observations on the origin and associations of primordial germ cells of the mouse☆
[摘要] Thisstudyexplorestheoriginofprimordialgermcells(PGCs)ofthemouseandexaminestheirmorphologyandassociationswithothercellsduringearlydevelopment.PGCshavebeenselectivelystainedbythealkalinephosphatasehistochemicalreactionandviewedbylightandelectronmicroscopyfromthetimetheyarefirstdetectableintheyolksacendodermuntiltheyenterthegonadalridges.ThereareconflictingreportsastowhetherthePGCsoriginatefromendodermalcellsorwhethertheyoriginateelsewhereandsubsequentlyentertheendoderm.TheobservationsinthepresentstudyfavorthepremisethatPGCsofthemousedonotoriginateintheendoderm.Furthermore,itwasobservedthatPGCsundergospecificchangesinmorphologyduringthedevelopmentalperiodstudiedandthiswasinterpretedtomeanthat,althoughPGCsaresetasideearlyindevelopmentasadistinctcellline,theyalsocontinuetobecomemorespecializedwithintime.Thegermcelllineisratherunusualinthatitdoesnotexistasadiscretetissuebut,instead,resideswithinvariousothertissuesduringitslifehistory.Thisapparentdependenceuponsomaticcellsismaintainedeveninadultanimalsandmaybeimportantinservingtomaintainormodifytheenvironmentofthegermcells.
