Switch in pattern formation after puncturing the anterior pole of Smittia eggs (Chironomidae, Diptera)☆
[摘要] Theaberrantpattern,“doubleabdomen,â€previouslyinducedintheeggofSmittiabyuvirradiationofanteriorpoleregionswasalsoproducedbypuncturingoftheeggattheanteriorpole.Doubleabdomensandembryoswithanteriordefectsdevelopedineggsinwhichpuncturinghadlocallypreventedtheregulararrangementofcleavagenucleiintheperiplasm.Theresultinggapintheblastodermattheanteriorpolewassubsequentlyclosedunderexclusionofasmallamountofeggmaterial.Doubleabdomensdidnotdevelopineggswhereexclusionofanterioreggmaterialwasnotobserved.Thusabasicswitchinthedevelopmentalprogramoftheeggappearstodependuponthefunctionaleliminationofsomecrucialcomponentsintheanterioreggregion.
