Biochemical and histological changes in the respiratory system of Rana catesbeiana larvae during normal and induced metamorphosis☆
[摘要] Theincorporationofaminoacidsandthymidineintolungsandgillsofbullfrogtadpoleswerestudiedduringnormalandthyroidhormone-inducedmetamorphosis.Duringnormalmetamorphosisbothaminoacidandthymidineincorporationintogilltissuedecreaseduringthelatemetamorphicstages.Duringthistimeperiod,histologicalstudiesshowareductioningillvascularityandanincreaseinthenumberofmelanocytesrelativetogillepitheliumcells.Theratesofaminoacidandthymidineincorporationintothelungsinthelatemetamorphicstagesaremuchhigherthaninyoungtadpoles.Thelunghistologyshowsanincreaseinthepotentialrespiratoryepitheliumbyanincreaseinthenumberandsizeofseptaduringthelatermetamorphicstages.Thyroidhormoneadministrationtoyoungtadpolesmimicsthebiochemicalchangesobservedduringnormalmetamorphosisbutdoesnotleadtothesamemorphologicalchangesasobservedduringnormalmetamorphosis.Thediscrepanciesbetweennormalandinducedmetamorphosisarediscussed.
