Degeneration of the intersegmental muscles: Alterations in hemolymph during muscle degeneration☆
[摘要] AlterationsinhemolymphconstituentsduringthedegenerationoftheintersegmentalmusclesofManducasextaandAntheraeapolyphemushavebeenfollowedbyseveraltechniques.Anantigentomuscleproteinappearsinthebloodwithin5–10hraftertheadulthasemerged.Whentritiatedleucineisinjectedintodevelopingpupae,labeledproteinandaminoacidsarereleasedintothebloodduringtheperiodoverwhichthemusclesdegenerate.Bloodlevelsoflacticdehydrogenase,glutamine-oxaloacetatetransaminase,argininephosphokinase,andaldolaseincreaseapproximately8–9hraftertheinsectsemerge.Thelattertwoenzymesincreasesixfoldoverpreemergencelevels,andarehighestduringtheperiodoverwhichmuscleintegrityiscompromised.Thelevelsofcirculatingmuscleproteinsdecreaseafter30–50hr.Theseseveraldatasuggestthatafractionofthemuscleproteinisnotdigestedwithinthemusclefiber,butissolubilizedorotherwisereleasedintothehemolymph,tobedigestedelsewhere.
