[摘要] Unfertilizedseaurchineggsturnonthymidinetransport,DNAsynthesisandthechromosomecycleinresponsetoprocainehydrochloride.Theratestowhichtheseprocessesactivatedependontheextracellularconcentrationofprocaine.RemovingprocaineturnsoffDNAsynthesisandthechromosomecycle,re-addingprocaineturnstheseprocessesononcemore.Thymidinetransportdoesnotturnoffafterprocaineremoval.Itremainsonattherateithadreachedatthetimeofprocaineremoval.Duringa12-hrperiod,unfertilizedeggsinprocainecompletefourS-phases,whilenormal,fertilizedembryoscompleteeight.TritiatedthymidineincorporationintoDNAisverylowinprocaine-treatedeggs.Thisisbecauseinprocainethethymidinetransportsystemisrelativelyinactivecomparedtothatoffertilizedeggs.ThedatasuggesteggsmaypossesshomeostaticmechanismsthatactivelysuppresstheDNAsyntheticpathwayandthechromosomecycle.ThissystemforturningonandoffDNAsynthesismayproveusefulinfurtheranalysesofthefactorscontrollingDNAsynthesisduringearlydevelopment.
