Inter- and intramyotomal gap junctions in the axolotl embryo☆
[摘要] Inearlytailbudembryosoftheaxolotl(Ambystomamexicanum),cellsoftheanteriormyotomesbegintoelongateandalignalongthelongitudinalaxisoftheanimal.Soonthereafter,gapjunctionsappearbetweenthedifferentiatingmyotubes.Thesejunctionsoccurbetweenadjacentcellswithinamyotome(intramyotomal)andbetweenthecellsofadjacentmyotomeswhichareseparatedfromoneanotherbynarrowconnectivetissuesepta(intermyotomal).Thelatterarefoundattheendsoftheelongatingcellswheremuscle-tendoninsertionwilloccurandnerve-musclesynapseswillform.Thegapjunctionsaretransient:Theyappearwiththeonsetofmyofibrillarformationatthetimethatnervefibersentertheintermyotomalsepta.Thejunctionslastuntilthecellshavedifferentiatedintomaturestriatedmusclecellsandneuromuscularsynapsesarefullydeveloped.Thesegapjunctionsmayprovideameansforthedirectintercellularspreadofelectricalexcitationbetweenthedifferentiatingmusclecellsandsoaccountfortheobservedmyogeniccontractionofmyotomes.Wealsosuggestthatthesejunctionsmayformameansforcellularcommunicationandinteractionduringthedevelopmentoftheaxialmusculature.
