Scanning electron microscopic study of cell movements in the corneal endothelium of the avian embryo☆
[摘要] Usingthescanningelectronmicroscopewehaveexaminedtheappearance,insitu,ofthemigratingcellsofthepresumptivecornealendotheliuminthechickembryo.Theprimarystroma,acollagenouslayerwhichservesasamajorsubstrateforthemigrationofthecells,wasfoundtohavemanydeepfoldsandridges.Thecollagenfibrilsofthestroma,asseenonitsposteriorsurface,appeararrangedmoreorlessisotropically.Areasoforthogonalpackingaresmallandrelativelysparse.Whilethecellsmakecontactwiththissubstratumtheydonotseemtobeguidedbyitstopographicfeatures.Themigratingendothelialcellslackwelldevelopedruffles,supportingtheincreasingprevalentideathatthepatternofcellsurfaceactivityobservedinvitroduringcellularlocomotion,isnotanabsoluteprerequisiteforcellmovement.
