Development of the small intestine in the hypophysectomized rat: II. Influence of cortisone, thyroxine, growth hormone, and prolactin☆
[摘要] Theintestinaldeficienciescausedbyhypophysectomyofratsat6daysofagecanberepairedtovaryingdegreesbythyroxineorcortisonebutnotbygrowthhormoneorprolactin.Administrationofdailydosesofthyroxinealonefrom19–22daysraisesduodenalalkalinephosphataseactivitytonormallevelsat24days;ithasastrongeffectonjejunalsucraseandmaltase,althoughtheseactivitiesremainbelowthoseofcontrols.ThyroxinecausesamarkedincreaseinroughendoplasmicreticulumandrestorestheGolgicomplexestotheirnormalappearance.Italsoelicitsanintensificationofperiodicacid-Schiff(PAS)stainabilityofthebrushborder.Cortisoneacetategivenfrom19to22dayselevatessucraseandmaltasetonormallevelsbutdoesnotfullyrestorephosphataseactivity.Likethyroxine,cortisonecausesintensificationofPASstainingofthebrushborderandalsoincreasesroughendoplasmicreticulum.ItseemstostimulateGolgiactivity,butresultsintheappearanceofavarietyofabnormalforms.ThedefectsinGolgiconfiguration,brushbordercarbohydratecontent,andactivityofglycoproteinenzymesthatareboundtothebrushbordermayallreflectimpairedglycosylationinthehypophyseoprivicstate;theresultsofthyroxineorcortisoneadministrationsuggestthatbothhormonesmayaffectglycosylationbutindifferentways.
