Determination of spermatozoan motility☆
[摘要] Arapidmethodforthequantitativedeterminationofspermatozoanmotilityisdescribed.Thismethodinvolvesthespectrophotometricmeasurementoftheopticaldensityofspermsuspensionsmadetoflowthroughaflow-cellsoastoorientinthedirectionofthelightpath.Whentheflowisstoppedthespermatozoareturntorandomness.Thetimeittakesaspermatozoansuspensiontoreturntorandomnesscanbefollowedspectroscopicallyanditisdirectlyrelatedtothespermatozoanmotility.Themotilityofseaurchinspermatozoaupondilutionintoseawaterhasbeenquantitativelydeterminedandfoundtoconsistofthreedistinctperiods:(1)shortperiodofhighmotilitywithoutdecreaseinactivity,(2)periodofrapiddeclineinactivity(whichappearstobeexponential),and(3)avariableperiodoflowactivity.TheeffectofEDTAonthe3periodsisalsodescribed.
