The development of transplantable teratocarcinomas from intratesticular grafts of pre- and postimplantation mouse embryos☆
[摘要] When3-and6-daymouseembryosaregraftedintothetestesofadultstheybecomedisorganizedanddevelopintogrowthscomposedofmanykindsoftissues.Insomegrafts,someofthecellsremainundifferentiatedforremarkablylongperiodsoftime.Thesecellsarepluripotentandtheymaycontinuetoproliferateindefinitelyandserveasstemcellsofteratomas.Theseteratomascanbetransplantedserially,andtheymaybecomposedofmanykindsoftissues,ortheymayprogressalongoneofseveralmorphologicallines.Forexample,theymaybecomepredominantlyembryonic,neural,orparietalyolksactumors.Whensomeofthesetransplantableteratomasweregraftedintraperitoneally,theyproducedembryoidbodieswhichmorphologicallyresembleearlynormalmouseembryos.Teratomaswerederivedfromembryosofstrains129/Sv,A/He,andF1hybridsbetweenthesestrains.Thetumorsresembleineveryrespectthespontaneoustesticularteratomascharacteristicofstrain129/Sv.Itisshownthatateratomaoriginatesfromadisorganizedpopulationofundifferentiatedembryoniccells.Forspontaneousteratomas,thispopulationisderivedfromprimordialgermcells.Forthetumorsdiscussedhere,thispopulationisderivedfromgraftedembryos.
