[摘要] Criticalexaminationofvariationofappropriateadultstructurescangiveinformationontheirontogeny.InaCretaceousinsectivore,thepatternsofserialvariationofcheektoothstructuresexhibitmanykindsofmorphologicalgradients.Alltheseobservedgradientscanbeexplainedbyaminimumoftwoorthreeembryologicalgradientsactingonaprepatternthatiscommontoeachtoothprimordium.Threedichotomoussignalsarenecessaryforotherfeatures.Thusthesimplestprogramofdentalontogenycanbederived.Extensions,tests,andothermattersarediscussed.
