On the formation of a homogeneous zygotic population in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii☆
[摘要] Upontransferintoaliquidmediumdevoidofanitrogensource,vegetativecellsofChlamydomonasreinhardtiiundergoagametogenicdifferenciationprocesstogiverisetosexuallyactivegametesthatarecapableofmatingwithoppositematingtypegametes.Strikingdifferenceshavebeendemonstratedinthematingefficiency(0to100%)ofgametesinducedatdifferentvegetativegrowthstagesinthelight-darksynchronizedculture.Thisdifferenceinmatingefficiencyofgametesisindependentofmating-typebutdirectlyrelatedtothegrowthstageofthesynchronizedvegetativeculturesatthetimeofgametogenicinduction.Incontrasttothesynchronizedculture,thematingefficiencyofgametesinthecontinuouslight,nonsynchronizedvegetativecultureisindependentofthegrowthstageatthetimeofgametogenicinduction.Thematingbehaviorofgametesappearstoberatherunstablesincethematingefficiencyofagivenclonecanbealteredconsiderablyduringroutinemaintenanceoftheculture.Notalltheprogenyofaparticularstraininherittheidenticalmatingefficiencyoftheirparents.Thestabilityofthematingbehaviorandthetransmittanceofthematingbehaviortothevegetativeprogenyhavebeenfoundtovaryamongdifferentclones.Thehighfrequencyatwhichthematingbehavioralterssuggeststhatthematingbehaviorisarathercomplexexpressionofanumberofdifferentfactors.
