Influence of thyroid hormones on neuronal death and differentiation in larval Rana pipiens☆
[摘要] Thepresentexperimentsdemonstratethatthyroidhormonemediatesneuronaldeathaswellasdifferentiation.HypophysectomizedRanapipienslarvaeexposedtohightitresofhormone(50μg/l)rapidlyundergometamorphosis.Inthelateralmotorcolumn(LMC)approximatelytwo-thirdsofthemotorneuronsdegenerateinresponsetohormonaltreatment.Athighhormonelevels,degeneratingcellsexhibitlittleacidhydrolaseactivity,whereasatlowerdoses(≤10μg/l)manysecondarylysosomesareapparentindyingneurons.Inbothinstances,phagocyticmicrogliaapparentlyremoveneuronaldebrisbyheterophagocytosis.Althoughthemajorityofthecellsdie,othersdifferentiateintobiopolarneuronsfollowingtheadministrationofhormone.ThesecellsdisplayvividdepositsofacetylcholinesterasereactionproductinputativeNisslbodies.Theroleofthyroidhormone(orhormones)insimultaneouslyregulatingneuronaldeathanddifferentiationisdiscussedinlightofourcurrentknowledgeonthesignificanceofhormonestoneuralmaturation.
