[摘要] EithergaseousammoniaorammoniumsaltsdirectlycontrolthesizeoffruitingbodiesinPolysphondyliumpallidumandavariantofDictyosteliumdiscoideum.However,thefruitingbodiesofD.discoideumremainconstantinsizeoverawiderangeofammoniaconcentrations.InP.pallidumhighconcentrationsofammoniawillinducemicrocystformation,adevelopmentalpathwaythatbypassesnormalaggregationandfruiting.Theeffectiveconcentrationsofammoniaarewithintherangegivenoffbytheamoebae,andtherefore,ammoniacouldconceivablybeacontrollingfactorinslimemolddevelopmentinnature.
