Evidence for a gradient of a morphogenetic substance in the developing limb☆
[摘要] Apolarizingactivityinthedevelopingvertebratelimbbudhasbeenimplicatedinthecontrolofthemorphogenesisofitsanteroposterioraxis.Theresultsofanearlierexperimentsuggestthatthereisagradientofasimilarmorphogeneticactivityinthe4-daychickwing,withahighlevelofactivityalongtheposteriorborder,nodetectableactivityattheanteriorborder,andanintermediatelevelofactivityinthecenter,i.e.,abouthalfwaybetweentheanteriorandposteriorborders.Theexperimentsreportedhereshowthatthisactivitydisappearsfromthecenterofthelimbafterplacinganimpermeablebarrierposteriortothecenter,butnotafterplacingthebarrieranteriortothecenter.Aporousbarrierplacedposteriortothecenterdoesnotaltertheactivityinthecenterofthelimb.Theseresultsleadustosuggestthatthegradientofmorphogeneticactivityinthechickwingistheresultofthemovement(possiblybydiffusion)ofafactor(s)fromasourceintheposteriorregionofthewing.
