Analysis of the compartments of the wing of Drosophila melanogaster mosaic for a temperature-sensitive mutation that reduces mitotic rate
[摘要] GynandromorphsofDrosophilamelanogasterwereanalysedinwhichthefemaletissuewasnormalbutthemaletissuewashemizygousforatemperature-sensitivemutation,l(1)ts1126,whichreducesmitoticrate.Ingynandromorphsgrownatrestrictivetemperature,theslow-growingl(1)ts1126tissuesurvivespreferentiallywhenitissegregatedfromthewild-typetissue,i.e.,whenitoccupiesanentireimaginaldiscoranentireanteriororposteriorcompartmentwithinadisc.Mosaiccompartmentscomposedofbothmale,l(1)ts1126,andfemalewild-typetissuearefoundlessfrequentlyatrestrictivetemperaturethanatpermissivetemperatureandwhenpresent,arecomposedmainlyofwild-typetissuewithverysmallpatchesofl(1)ts1126.Theseverysmallpatchesarefoundalmostexclusivelyalongthebordersdefiningcompartments.Theimplicationsoftheseresultstotheoriesconcerningthewayinwhichthecompartmentboundariesmaybemaintainedisconsidered.Ingynandromorphsgrownatrestrictivetemperature,thesizeofcompartmentscomposedentirelyofl(1)ts1126tissueisdrasticallyreduced,relativetothosecomposedofwild-typetissue.Theobservationssupportthehypothesisthatthesizesoftheanteriorandposteriorcompartmentsareautonomouslycontrolled.
