Induction of meiosis in fetal mouse testis in vitro

[摘要] FetalmousetestesandovarieswiththeirurogenitalconnectionswereculturedsinglyorinpairsonNucleporefilters.Whenatestisinwhichthesexwasnotyetmorphologicallydetectablewasculturedtogetherwitholderovariescontaininggermcellswhichwereprogressingthroughthemeioticprophase,themalegermcellsweretriggeredtoentermeiosis.Whenolderfetaltestesinwhichthetesticularcordshavedevelopedwereculturedtogetherwithovariesofthesameagewithgermcellsinmeiosis,theoocyteswerepreventedfromreachingdiplotenestage.Itwasconcludedthatthefetalmaleandfemalegonadssecretediffusablesubstanceswhichinfluencegermcelldifferentiation.Themalegonadsecretesa“meiosis-preventingsubstance”(MPS)whichcanarrestthefemalegermcellswithinthemeioticprophase.Thefemalegonadsecretesa“meiosis-inducingsubstance”(MIS)whichcantriggerthenondifferentiatedmalegermcellstoentermeiosis.
