Projection of sensory neurons from a homeotic mutant appendage, Antennapedia, in Drosophila melanogaster
[摘要] Centralprojectionsofsensoryneuronsfromhomeoticmutantappendages(Antennapedia)ofDrosophilamelanogasterwerecomparedwiththoseofwild-typeantennaeandwild-typelegsbymeansofdegenerationandcobaltbackfillingmethods.Sensoryaxonsoriginatingfromwild-typethoraciclegsterminatewithintheventralipsilateralhalfofthecorrespondingneuropilesegmentanddonotprojecttothebrain.Sensoryfibersfromthethirdantennalsegment(AIII)ofwild-typeanimalsprojectintotheipsilateralantennalglomerulus(AG)andtoalesserextentintothecontralateralAG,whereasthosefromthesecondantennalsegmentterminateprincipallywithintheipsilateralposteriorantennalcenter.Thesensoryterminalsoffemur,tibia,andtarsiofthehomeoticlegshowadistributionverysimilartothatofthehomologouswild-typeantennalsegmentAIII,differingtoaminordegreeonlyinthesizeandpreciselocalizationofterminalswithintheantennalglomeruli.Nodegeneratingaxonswereevidentinultrastructuralexaminationofneckconnectivesafterremovalofhomeoticlegs.Itisthusveryimprobablethatanysensoryfibersofthehomeoticlegprojecttonormallegprojectionareasinthethoracico-abdominalganglion.Severalalternativeexplanationsareofferedfortheapparentretentionofantennalspecificitybyaxonsfromthetransformedappendage.
