Regulation of development in Dictyostelium discoideum: I. Initiation of the growth to development transition by amino acid starvation☆
[摘要] EvidenceispresentedwhichindicatesthataminoacidstarvationisthespecificstimulusinitiatingthedevelopmentalphaseofthelifecycleofDictyosteliumdiscoideum:(i)Amoebaewerewashedfreeofcomplexgrowthmediumandplacedinbuffersupplementedwithspecificnutrients;aminoacidsweretheonlynutrientsthatspecificallyinhibitedtheinitiationofdevelopment.(ii)Apartiallydefinedgrowthmediumallowingselectivestarvationforaminoacidsorglucoseduringgrowthisdescribed.Amoebaeinitiateddevelopmentonlywhenstarvedforaminoacids.Anyeffectofglucoseontheprimarycontroloftheinitiationofdevelopmentisanindirectresultofitsutilizationasasourceofprecursorsforendogenouslysynthesizedaminoacids.
