[摘要] PatternformationintheDrosophilaretinaproceedsbytherecruitmentofcells,alongamorphogeneticfront,intoalattice.Attheadvancingfront,markedbyadorso-ventralfurrowintheeyeimaginaldisc,cellsareorganizedintoommatidialprecursors,eachcontainingcellsdestinedtobecomephotoreceptors2,3,4,5,and8.Behindthefront,amitoticwaveproducesphotoreceptors1,6,and7,plustheremainingcellsneededtocompletetheommatidia.Duringthethirdlarvalinstar,thefrontsweepsanteriorlyacrosstheeyedisc,leavingahighlyorderedpatterninitswake.Precedingthedorso-ventralfurrowisagroovethatbisectstheeyediscintodorsalandventralhalvesandpresumablyplaysaroleinestablishingtheequatorialsymmetryline.Celllineageplayslittleroleinpatternformationintheeye.Geneticmosaicsshowthatthecellsofeachommatidiumarenotderivedfromasinglemothercell;thecellsappeartoberecruitedatrandomatthemorphogeneticfront.Similarly,themirrorsymmetryaboveandbelowtheequatorisnotestablishedbyaclonalmechanism;asingleclonecancontributecellstoommatidiaonbothsidesoftheequator.
