The effects of cinnamon on xanthine dehydrogenase, aldehyde oxidase, and pyridoxal oxidase activity during development in Drosophila melanogaster☆
[摘要] Thecinnamon(cin)eyecolormutantofDrosophilamelanogasterwascharacterizedtodeterminebiochemicalcorrelationswithanothermutant,maroon-like.Aswithmaroon-like,cinnamonflieslackthreeenzymaticactivities:xanthinedehydrogenase,aldehydeoxidase,andpyridoxaloxidase.Xanthinedehydrogenase(XDH)issubjecttoamaternaleffectinbothmutants;i.e.,mutantprogenyofheterozygousmothershaveXDHactivity,resultinginwildtypeeyecolor.However,thematernaleffectisstrongerincinnamonthaninmaroon-like.WhereasmaternallyaffectedcinnamonshowalargeincreaseinXDHactivityduringlarvalstages,andXDHactivityisstilldetectableaftereclosion,themagnitudeofincreaseinXDHactivityislessinmaroon-like,andactivityisnolongerdetectableinsecond-daypupaeandalllaterstages.ThelargeincreaseinXDHactivityinmaternallyaffectedcinnamonsuggeststhatthereisdenovosynthesisofenzymaticallyactiveXDHduringdevelopmentintheabsenceofthecin+gene.Cinnamonisalsouniqueinthatmaternallyaffectedfliesretainisoxanthopterin(IXP),theproductofXDHactivity.Thesefliesappeartobedeficientinsomeaspectofeitherpteridinemetabolismorexcretion.
