Control of fungal development: I. The effects of two regulatory genes on growth in Schizophyllum commune☆
[摘要] InSchizophyllumthevariouseventscomprisingthetransitionfromthehomokaryotictothedikaryoticstageofthelifecyclearetriggeredbytwosetsofdevelopmentalregulatorygenesknownastheAandBincompatabilityfactors.Thispaperdefinestheeffectsofthesegenesongrowthofsurfacecoloniesbyestablishingthegrowthcurvesofdikaryons,comon-Aheterokaryons,andstrainsthatmorphologicallymimicdikaryonsorheterokaryonsbecauseofconstitutivemutationsinAand/orB.Likehomokaryons,allthesedevelopmentalstagesandgeneticmimicshavetriphasicgrowthcurveswithdefiniteexponentialphases.Growthcurvesofdikaryonsandcommon-Aheterokaryonsareindistinguishablefromthoseoftheircorrespondinggeneticmimics.However,thegrowthrateduringexponentialphaseandthetimingoftheentirecurvearedependentupondevelopmentaltype,withtheconsequencethatcoloniesofdifferentdevelopmentalstagesharvestedeitheratequaltimesoratequalweightsarenotnecessarilyinthesamephaseofcolonialgrowth.Datapresentedallowchoiceofharvestingtimessuchthatcoloniesofthedifferentdevelopmentaltypeswillbewithinthesamegrowthphase.Biochemicaldifferencesbetweenhomokaryonsanddikaryonsmustbeduetodifferentiationsincethetwostageshavevirtuallythesamegrowthrate.
