Analysis of pattern formation in neurospora perithecial development using genetic mosaics☆
[摘要] GeneticmosaicshavebeenusedtoelucidatethedevelopmentofstructuresinthesexualphaseofNeurospora.Heterokaryonscontainingnucleiofper-1(anautonomouscolormutant)andper-1+wereusedtoconstructthesemosaics.Thestudiessuggest:(1)100–300vegetativenucleimakeuptheperithecialinitiatingpopulation;(2)threedevelopmentallydistincttissuesarepresentwithinthewalloftheperithecium;(3)theinnerandmiddlewalllayersaswellastherosetteofascosporesandtheneckoftheperitheciumarederivedfromasmall,relatedgroupofnuclei;(4)thislatteranlageisprobablyasubpopulationofthenucleiwhichformtheouterwalllayer;(5)therosetteofascosporesarisesfromonlyonematernalnucleusinthemajorityofperithecia.Theseresultsprovideabasisforunderstandingmechanismsofpatternformationinastructurewhichhasbeenratherintractabletotraditionalcytologicalanalysis.InNeurospora,unlikeDrosophila,thereseemstobelittlerigiddeterminationofcelllineageorpatternsofgrowth.Insteadtheaverageamountofgrowthwhichanentiretissueorperitheciumundergoesiscontrolled.
