The absence of a growth inhibitor during the log phase of growth of Dictyostelium discoideum☆
[摘要] WhenamebaeofthecellularslimemoldDictyosteliumdiscoideumAx-3reachstationaryphaseinliquidnutrientmedium,anextracellularfactorappearswhichwillinhibitcellmultiplicationwhenaddedtoalogarithmicallymultiplyingculture(Yargeretal.,1974).Recently,Hanish(1975)presentedevidencethataninhibitoralsoaccumulatedduringlogphaseandconcludedthatthecessationofcellmultiplicationandthefinalcellconcentrationwerecontrolledbytheaccumulationofthisinhibitortoaneffectivelevel.Wehavereexaminedthisextremelyinterestingobservation,buthavefoundnoevidencetosupportHanish'sconclusions.
