The transformational potential of striated muscle in hydromedusae☆
[摘要] IsolatedstriatedmuscletissueoftheAnthomedusaPodocorynecarneaparticipatesintheregenerationofafunctionalmanubrium(thefeedingorganofmedusae)whenitiscombinedhomoclonallywithendodermalcellsofthemedusaumbrella.Themorphogeneticpotentialofstriatedmusclecellsinthisregenerationprocesswasevaluatedbycombiningnuclearlabeledstriatedmusclecellswithsomeunlabeledendodermcells.Histologicalandautoradiographicalresultsdemonstratethattransformationofstriatedmusclecellsintosmoothmusclecellsoftheectodermandalsointoendodermcellsmusthaveoccurredintheregenerate.ThepotentialforcelltransformationofisolatedstriatedmusclecellsofPodocorynecarneaisdiscussedanditispostulatedthatunderappropriateconditionsallcelltypesnecessaryfortheregenerationofamanubriumcanbeformedfromstriatedmusclecells.
