In vitro stimulation of cartilage in embryonic chick neural crest cells by products of retinal pigmented epithelium☆
[摘要] Theretinalpigmentedepitheliumofthechickembryoinfluencesheadneuralcrestmesenchymalcellstoformthescleralcartilageoftheeye.Thepossibleroleofextracellularmatrixinthisinteractionwasstudied.ExtracellularmatrixwasdepositedonMilliporefiltersinvitrobypigmentedepithelialcellswhichwerethenkilledbydistilledwaterlysis.WhengrownontheMilliporefilterswhichhadcarriedpigmentedepithelium,clonalneuralcrestandperiocularmesenchyme“targetâ€cellsformedcartilagein61of155experiments.CartilagewasnotformedwhenthecellsweregrownonnakedfiltersnordidgelsofpurifiedTypeIandTypeIIcollagenpromotechondrogenesis.Itisconcludedthatextracellularmatrixdepositedbythepigmentedepitheliuminvitroisapotentstimulusfortheinductionofchondrogenesisincompetentmesenchyme,andthatlivingpigmentedepithelialcellsneednotbepresentforsuchinduction.
