Role of germinal vesicle material in producing maturation-promoting factor in starfish oocyte☆
[摘要] Instarfish,oocytematurationisinducedby1-methyladenine(1-MeAde).1-MeAdeactsontheoocytesurfacetoproduceacytoplasmicmaturation-promotingfactor(MPF),whichinturnbringsaboutgerminalvesiclebreakdownandsubsequentprocessofoocytematuration.TheparticipationofgerminalvesiclematerialintheproductionofMPFwasinvestigatedwithoocytesofthestarfish,Asterinapectinifera.Whenenucleatedoocytesoroocytefragmentswithoutgerminalvesiclesweretreatedwith1-MeAde,MPFwasfoundtobeproduced.However,theamountofMPFproducedwassmallascomparedwiththatinthecaseofintactoocyteswithgerminalvesicles.ThecapacityoftheenucleatedoocytestoproduceMPFwasrestoredwhengerminalvesiclematerialwasinjected.Ontheotherhand,ithasbeenknownthattheamountofMPFincreaseswhenMPFisinjectedintointactoocytes(amplificationofMPF).However,inthecaseofenucleatedoocytessuchincreaseofMPFwasnolongerobserved,suggestingthatgerminalvesiclematerialisrequiredforMPFamplification.
