Effects of pronase on the development of reversed symmetry and duplications in the sea urchin, Arbacia punctulata☆
[摘要] Precleavagezygotesoftheseaurchin,Arbaciapunctulata,wereexposedtoPronase.Thesetreatedembryosandnontreatedcontrolembryoswererearedthroughmetamorphosis.Allcontrollarvaedevelopednormalrudimentsfromtheleftcoelomandassociatedstructures.Ontheotherhand,manyofthepluteiwhichhadbeenexposedtoPronasehaddevelopedreversedsymmetry(i.e.,arudimentontherightside)orarudimentonboththerightandtheleftsides.Thesignificanceoftheseresultswithregardtocontrolsofspatialpatterningisdiscussedintermsofgradientsofmorphogeneticdeterminants,cellsurfaceproperties,adhesiveness,andcelldeath.
