The appearance of an extracellular arylsulfatase during morphogenesis of the sea urchin Strongylocentrotus purpuratus☆
[摘要] AnincreaseinarylsulfataseactivityoccursafterhatchinginembryosoftheseaurchinStrongylocentrotuspupuratus.Thebulkofthisincreasecanbeattributedtotheaccumulationofanextracellularactivity,sinceitcanberemovedbyanembryodissociationmediumoruponproteasetreatmentofintactembryos.Also,intactembryoscanhydrolyzeexogenoussubstrate,displayingactivityequivalenttothatwhichcanberemovedbythedissociationorproteasetreatment.Thedataindicatethattheactivityappearsasanewlysecretedmoleculeionicallycoupledtoamembranesiteortoothercomponentsintheextracellularmatrix.Themajorityoftheactivityisasinglecomponentofapparentlylargemolecularsize(analyzedonpolyacrylamidegelelectrophoresis),consistentwiththesuggestionthatitmaybecomplexedwithotherextracellularcomponents.Amorphogeneticroleforthisenzymeissuggestedbytheappearanceoftheextracellularsulfatasetemporallycoincidentwiththerequirementofsulfatedproteoglycansandglycoproteinsforcellmovementandshapechanges.
