Gap junctions and steroidogenesis in the fetal mammalian adrenal cortex☆
[摘要] Thin-sectionandfreeze-fracturedataretrievedfromdevelopingfetaladrenalsofmouse,rabbit,andratrevealthatgapjunctionswhichappearascorticalandmedullarycellsmorphogeneticallyassortthemselves.Inthepresumptivezonafasciculataandreticulariscommunicatingjunctionsdevelopbetweenneighboringcellsjustpriortotheonsetofsteroidogenesis.Intherodents,gapjunctionsassembleinlarge,particle-freeformationplaques1daybeforetheproliferationofsmoothendoplasmicreticulumandthevesiculationofmitochondria(morphologicalfeatureswhichareindicativeofsteroidogenesis).Similarobservationshavebeenobtainedinfetalrabbits,butheregapjunctionsapparentlydevelopintheabsenceofformationplaques.Ineachspecies,gapjunctionsapparentlydevelop1or2dayspriortoasurgeincorticosteroidproduction,suggestingthattheformationofcommunicatingjunctionsduringtheearlyphasesofadrenalcorticaldifferentiationmayprovideanavenuetocoordinatesteroidogenesisinthedevelopingfetalcortex.
