Pattern triplications produced by a cell-lethal mutation in Drosophila☆
[摘要] A48-h29°Ctreatmentgiventolarvaehomo-orhemizygousforatscell-lethalmutationoftenresultsinpatterntriplicationsoflegstructures.TheextrasetsofstructuresarelocatedindiscretecuticularprocessesandalwaysobeyW.Bateson'srule(1894,“MaterialsforthestudyofVariation,â€Macmillan,London).Theseprocessesmaybecomemorecircumferentiallycompletedistally(diverge)orlesscomplete(converge)bytheadditionordeletionofpatternelementsatthelinesofsymmetrybetweenthetwosetsofstructures.Analysisofthelocationofthecuticularprocessesinthelegsuggeststhatconvergenceanddivergencemaydependonthecircumferentiallocationofthecuticularprocess.Theresultsarediscussedinlightofthepredictionsofthepolarcoordinatemodelofpositionalinformation(S.V.Bryant,V.French,andP.J.Bryant,1981)whichcanexplainmost,butnotall,oftheobservations.
