Morphological analysis and fate map of the intersexual genital disc of the mutant doublesex-dominant in Drosophila melanogaster☆

[摘要] TheorganizationofthegenitaldiscinXX;dsxD+animals,whichhaveelementsofbothmaleandfemalegenitalia,hasbeenanalyzed.Theintersexualdisccontainsthreemajorregions,whichwereisolatedbyfragmentation.Aftermetamorphosisinhostlarvae,theseregionsproducedthemalegenitalia,thefemalegenitalia,andtheanalia,respectively.Thus,incontrasttothewild-typemaleandfemaleconstitution,theintersexualgeneticconstitutionofXX;dsxD+animalsallowsbothgenitalprimordiatodevelopandtodifferentiateadultstructures.Afatemapoftheintersexualdiscispresented.ObservationsmadeonthemorphologyofthegenitaldiscanditsderivativesinXX;dsxD+animalsandother“intersexual”geneticconstitutionsarecomparedanddiscussedintermsofthedevelopmentofthesexualdimorphism.
