Electrical current and cAMP induce lateral branching in the stolon of hydroids
[摘要] PulsesofcAMPinjectedionophoreticallyormechanicallyintotheepidermisofthestolonofthehydroidHydractiniainducelateralbranchingatthesiteofstimulation.Upto72%ofthepuncturedlocidevelopedabud6–24hrafterstimulation.Onlypulsatileinjectioninperiodsof,e.g.,5miniseffectiveininducinglateralbuds.ControlsprovidedevidencethatintheionophoreticmodetheinducingeffectderivesnotonlyfromthecAMPsignalbutalso,inpart,fromthepositiveelectriccurrentpassedthroughthemicropipetduringtheretentioninterval:DC(e.g.,8nA×1hror20nA×2hr)enteringthetissuealsoevokesapositiveresponse.AdditionalpulsesofcAMP,butnotofAMP,enhancethecurrenteffect.Thethresholddoseforasignificantamplificationhasbeendeterminedtobe3.6×10−13M(18pulsesà 2×10−14M).
