A mosaic analysis of the apterous mutation in Drosophila melanogaster☆
[摘要] Ananalysisofthreephenotypesexpressedbytheapterous-four(ap4)mutantofDrosophilamelanogasterhasbeencarriedoutinap4ap+mosaicadults.Thewingandhalteredeficiencyphenotypewasfoundtobeautonomousforentirelymutantstructures.However,smallpatchesofmutantanteriorandposteriorwingmargincellscanexistinmosaicwings.Examplesofduplicatedandtriplicatedlengthsofbristlerowswereoftenfoundassociatedwiththeexistingmutantpatches.About20%ofthemosaicsexpressedthephenotypeofprecociousadultdeath,dying30–40hraftereclosion.Thefocusforthisphenotypewaslocatedintheposteriorregionoftheabdomen,andastrongcorrelationwasfoundbetweenexpressionofthisphenotypeandthepresenceofmutantMalpighiantubules.Thefocusforjuvenilehormonedeficiencyinap4adultswaslocatednearthatforprecociousadultdeath;infact,thetwofocimaybeidentical.Itissuggestedthatdefectivefunctioningofap4adultMalpighiantubulesresultsinabnormalhemolymphleadingtoearlydeath.Inadequatejuvenilehormonesecretioncouldresultindirectlyfromimpairedglandularfunctioningattributabletoabnormaladulthemolymph.
