[摘要] Fertilizationbymorethanonesperminseaurchinsinevitablyleadstounevendivisionanddeathoftheembryo.Weprovideevidenceforablockagainstthispolyspermyinvolvingthehydrogenperoxidereleasebytheeggduringfertilizationthatistriggeredbyentryofthesuccessfulsperm.Polyspermyin100%offertilizedeggswasdemonstratedwhencatalasewasaddedtodestroyhydrogenperoxideimmediatelyafterfertilization.Soybeantrypsininhibitor,anotherpolyspermicagent,isshowntopreventtheformationofhydrogenperoxideinthefertilizedegg.Thissuggeststhattheproteasereleasedfromeggcorticalgranulesduringfertilizationplaysaroleinthehydrogenperoxidegeneratingsystem.
