Achromosomal cleavage of fertilized starfish eggs in the presence of aphidicolin☆
[摘要] Developmentoffertilizedeggsofstarfish,Asterinapectinifera,wasstudiedinthepresenceofaphidicolin,aspecificinhibitorofeukaryoticDNAsynthesis.Fertilizedeggscontinuedtocleaveeightorninetimesinthepresenceofaphidicolin,althoughthedelayofdevelopmentwasobservedandthesizeofblastomereswasnotequal.Thenucleusandchromosomeswereundetectableinblastomeresofembryosdevelopedinthepresenceofaphidicolin,althoughtheamphiasterwasclearlyvisibleinthecytoplasm.DNAsynthesisofsuchembryoswasnearlycompletelysuppressed.Thesemorphologicalandbiochemicallinesofevidenceindicatethattheabovecleavageisindependentofchromosomalreplication.Thestagewhenachromosomaldivisionsceaseandembryosbegintodiecorrespondstotheonsetofblastulation,suggestingthatinformationderivedfromtheembryogenomeisrequiredforblastulaformationinthisspecies.
