Two erythropoietic microenvironments and two larval red cell lines in bullfrog tadpoles☆
[摘要] PreviousworkhasshownthatRanacatesbeianatadpoleshavetwoerythropoieticsites:mesonephrickidneyandliver.Bothsitesapparentlyareactivethroughoutlarvallife.Amongthepleomorphiclarvalredbloodcells(RBCs)weobservetwomorphologicaltypeswhichdifferinthelarvalhemoglobins(Hb)thattheycontain.Onetypeisanoblong,ovalRBCwithanacentricnucleusandcontainsthelarvalHbwhichisslowestmigratingonelectrophoresisatbasicpH.ThisRBCtypeemanatesfromthekidneys.Theothertype,whichisellipticalinshape,withacentralnucleus,containsthreeotherlarvalHbsandemanatesfromtheliver.Histologicalsectionsofkidneyandliverrevealerythropoieticfociofdifferingcellularcompositionandconfiguration.WehavehypothesizedthatchoiceofRBCandHbtypesisdeterminedinpartbythedifferenterythropoieticmicroenvironments.Insupportofthishypothesisisourfindingthat,inorgancultures,livercoculturedwithkidneyundergoesashiftinitsHbpattern.PartoftheshiftistowardtheHbtypewhichistheproductofkidneyerythropoiesis.
