The influence of normal innervation upon abnormal synaptic connections between frog parasympathetic neurons☆
[摘要] Synapticconnectionsformbetweenparasympatheticneuronsinthefrogcardiacganglionwhentheirnormalpreganglionicinnervationisremoved.Thesynapsesbetweentheganglioncellsareinappropriateinthesensethattheyareabsentinnormallyinnervatedganglia.Thesenovelsynapsesformslowly;theyarereadilydetectedbyintracellularrecordingonlyafter1–2monthsofpreganglionicdenervation.After3monthsofextrinsicdenervationtwo-thirdsoftheganglioncellsreceivephysiologicallydetectablepostganglionicinputs,yettheefficacyofthesesynapsesremainssubstantiallylessthanthatofnative,preganglionicsynapses.Thisreductioninefficacyiscausedatleastinpartbythelocationofthepostganglionicsynapses;electronmicroscopyrevealsthemtobesituatedontheaxonsofganglioncells,whereaspreganglionicaxonsterminateprimarillyonthecellbodies.Theintrinsicsynapsesthatformintheabsenceofextrinsicinnervationarenolongerdetectablephysiologicallyafterganglioncellsarereinnervatedbypreganglionicaxons.Thissuppressionofconnectionsbetweenganglioncellsisnearlycomplete(90%)andisaconsequenceofcompetitionwithpreganglionicaxons:itdoesnotoccurintheabsenceofpreganglionicreinnervation.Thedataindicatethatthepresenceofpreganglionicinputstotheganglioncellsdiscouragestheformationandmaintenanceofsynapticconnectionsbetweenthem.
