The multiple subunits of discoidin I are encoded by different genes
[摘要] ThetranslationproductencodedbythemRNAcomplementarytoapreviouslydescribedplasmidtermedpDd8.1.2.(Williamsetal.,1979)comigratesonSDSgelswithdiscoidinI,adevelopmentallyregulatedlectinofDictyosteliumdiscoideum.Thistranslationproductalsoreactsspecificallywithanantiserumraisedagainstpurifieddiscoidin.Two-dimensionalgelanalysisrevealedthatdiscoidinIconsistsoftwopolypeptideswhichwedesignateasdiscoidinIaanddiscoidinIb.DiscoidinIbsometimesmigratesasadiffusespotandsometimesastwobarelyresolvedspots.Itispossible,therefore,thatdiscoidinIbisitselfamixtureoftwopolypeptideswhichdisplayverysimilarelectrophoreticbehavior.WefindthatpDd8.1.2.DNAhybridizespreferentiallywiththemRNAencodingdiscoidinIa,suggestingthatdiscoidinIaanddiscoidinIbaretheproductsofdifferentgenes.
