Lipid patterns of embryonal carcinoma cell lines and their derivatives: Changes with differentiation☆
[摘要] Thelipidcompositionofseveralteratocarcinomacelllineshasbeenexaminedbybiochemicalandimmunologicalmethodsinordertoidentifypropertiesthatmightbecorrelatedwiththestateofcelldifferentiation.Thedataindicatequalitativeandquantitativechangesinthephospholipid,cholesterol,andglycolipidcomposition.Inparticular,theratiosofcholesterol/phospholipidandofsphingomyelin/phosphatidylcholinearehigherindifferentiatedcells.Gangliosideswithshortglycosidicchains(GM3andGD3)arecharacteristicofundifferentiated,multipotent,embryonalcarcinomacelllines.Morecomplexgangliosides(GM1andGD1a)appearearlyduringthecourseofdifferentiation.Eachdifferentiatedcelllinepresentsauniquegangliosidemap.Resultsaretentativelycorrelatedwithastabilizationofthemembranebilayerindifferentiatedcelllines,whereasamorefluidstateofthemembraneinembryonalcarcinomacelllineswouldallowmaximalflexibility.Subtledifferencesingangliosidecompositionamongembryonalcarcinomacelllinesarediscussedinrelationwiththeirpotentialities,andtheirdevelopmentalage.
