Synthesis of cyclic AMP and phosphodiesterase in various species of cellular slime molds and its bearing on chemotaxis and differentiation☆
[摘要] With3differentchemotaxistestsithasbeenshownthatofthe7speciesofcellularslimemoldsexaminedinthisstudy4areattractedstronglytocyclicAMP,whiletheremaining3shownochemotacticresponsewhatsoever.NeverthelessitcouldbedemonstratedthatallthespeciesproducedextracellularcyclicAMP(althoughthenonrespondersdidproduceless).All7speciesalsosynthesizedaphosphodiesterasecapableofconvertingcyclicAMPto5′AMP.Despitethefactthatthesesubstancesareubiquitous,thereisstrongevidencefromFrancis(1965)tosupportthehypothesisthatthespeciesthatdonotrespondtocyclicAMPhaveadifferentacrasinthatisessentialfortheiraggregation.ThisraisesthequestionofthefunctionofcyclicAMPinthese3species,anditissuggestedthatitmaybeinvolvedindifferentiation.
