Aspects of dimethyl sulfoxide as solvent for teratogens
[摘要] Intestswithchickenembryosdimethylsulfoxideand,toalesserextent,propyleneglycolwerecomparedwithwaterassolventsofteratogens.Theeffectsofteratogen-specificmalformationswerereducedinincidenceandexpressivitywhen3-acetylpyridine,6-aminonicotinamide,and3-amino-1,2,4-triazoleweregivenindimethylsulfoxideratherthaninwater.Malformationsinducedbysulfanilamideoccurredwithhigherfrequencyandexpressionindimethylsulfoxidethaninaqueoussolution.Bidrindissolvedindimethylsulfoxidehadeffectssimilartosolutioninwaterintheextremitiesandbeak,butincidenceandextentofdefectsofthecervicalvertebraeweregreatlyreducedwhendimethylsulfoxideratherthanwaterwasthesolvent.Withphysostigmineandnicotinethenatureofthesolventmadelittledifference.Toxicity,asexpressedbyembryomortality,alsoshowedsolvent-specificdissimilaritiesamongtheteratogensused.Theimplicationsoftheseresultsarediscussed.
