Hemolytic effect of phenylhydrazine during amphibian metamorphosis☆
[摘要] Thecorrelationbetweenthespectralchangesinhemoglobinandtheseverityofanemiainducedbyphenylhydrazinetreatmentwasstudiedforthedifferentialsensitivityofamphibianstothedrug.Frogletswerethemostsensitivetophenylhydrazine,followedbyprometamorphictadpoles,adultfrogs,metamorphicclimaxtadpoles,andtriiodothyronine-treatedtadpoles.Thedifferentsensitivitiestothehemolyticactionofthedrugintheseanimalswasrationalizedintermsofaccessibility,uptake,anddetoxicationofphenylhydrazine,andadifferentrateofremovalofdamagedcells.Postmetamorphicresponseswerenotedforthelowuptakeofphenylhydrazinebyerythrocytesandthelossoffacilitateddiffusionof3-O-methylglucosebytheerythrocytesoftheadultfrog.Therateofregenerationoferythrocytes(erythropoiesis)afterphenylhydrazinetreatmentfollowedanorderalmostoppositetothatobservedinthehemolyticprocess.Thus,tadpolesatmetamorphicclimaxshowedthemaximumrateofregeneration,followedbyT3-treatedtadpoles,adultfrogs,froglets,andprometamorphictadpoles.Erythropoiesisimmediatelyfollowingthehemolyticphasedidnotrevealanyabnormalhemoglobins.Survivalafterexposuretophenylhydrazinefollowedthesameorderdescribedforhemolyticsusceptibility,i.e.,frogletshadthehighestpercentsurvival.Tadpolesimmersedin2,4-dinitrophenolweremoresensitivetothelethaleffectsofphenylhydrazine.
