Myocardial cell shape change as a mechanism of embryonic heart looping☆
[摘要] Measurementsoflocalareachangesoftheembryonicmyocardialsurfaceindicatethattheprospectiverightsideexpandsduringlooping.Observationsfromsectionedspecimensshowingthattherightsideofthemyocardiumalsobecomesthinnerduringloopingsuggestthattheincreaseinareamayresultfrommyocardialcellflattening.Lightmicroscopicexaminationofsilverimpregnatedheartssuggeststhatindividualcellsincreaseinapicalsurfaceareaastherightsidebecomesconvex.Computer-assistedanalysesofscanningelectronmicrographsshowthatcellsoftheprospectiveconvexsideincreasesignificantlyinapicalsurfaceareaduringlooping,althoughtherelativealignmentoftheirmajorsurfaceaxesremainsunchangedandrandom.Myocardialcellsoftheconcavesideofthehearthaveasmallerapicalsurfaceareaandtheirmajorsurfaceaxesarealignedcircumferentiallyinrelationtotheheart.Weproposethattheseregionalchangesincellshapeandalignmentmediateheartlooping.
