Uncoupling of gonial and spermatocyte stages by means of conditional lethal mutations in Drosophila melanogaster
[摘要] TwoconditionallethalswhichchangethedevelopmentalfateofgonialcellsinmaleDrosophilamelanogasterhavebeenisolated.1(1)63arrestsmitosesingonialcysts(andothertissues)beforethefourdivisioncycleshavebeencompleted,butallowsmeioticdivisionsandnormalspermatiddifferentiationtoproceed.Gonialdivisionsintestesof1(1)55,ontheotherhand,continuewellaftertheusualfourdivisions,andasaresult,cystswithhundredsofcells,manyofwhichlaterdegenerate,areformed.Itissuggestedthatfourgonialdivisionsarenotaprerequisitegeneticallyandmetabolicallyforspermatocytedifferentiationandthattheactivationofthespermatocyteprogramisnotpredeterminedbutratherrequiresthearrestofthegonialprogram.Otherimplicationsofthefindingsforourunderstandingofthegeneticcontrolofspermiogenesisarebrieflydiscussed.
