Mutants of the bithorax complex and determinative states in the thorax of Drosophila melanogaster☆
[摘要] Homoeoticmutationsofthebithoraxcomplexcausesegmentaltransformations.Thegenesinwhichthesemutationsoccuraregoodcandidatesforgenesthatareinvolvedindetermination.Thedeterminationsysteminimaginaldiscsmusthaveatleasttwofunctions.Oneisacellheredityfunctionthatisresponsibleformaintainingthedeterminedstateduringgrowthanddevelopment.Asecondistheexpressionofthedeterminedstate(e.g.,differentimaginaldiscshavedifferentmorphologies).Thehomoeoticmutationsofthebithoraxcomplexcouldbeaffectingeitherofthesetwofunctions.Ihavefoundthatwhenposteriorhalteredisccells,thataretransformedbythemutationpostbithoraxsothattheyformwingcuticleinsitu,regenerateanteriorstructures,thesestructuresareanteriorwing.Thisisthesameresultasthatseenwhenwild-typeposterior-wingdisccellsregenerateanteriorstructures.Ontheotherhand,whenanteriorhalteredisccellstransformedbythemutationbithorax3,sothattheyproducewingcuticleinsitu,regenerate,theyproduceposteriorhalterestructures.Thisisunlikewild-typeanterior-wingdisccells,whichregenerateposterior-wingstructures.Fromtheseresults,Iconcludethatbithorax3affectstheexpressionofthedeterminedstateandpostbithoraxaffectsthecellheredityofdetermination.
