[摘要] ThepostembryonicdevelopmentofthenematodeCaenorhabditiseleganshasbeendescribedatthelevelofindividualcelllineages.Amutantofpostembryonicdevelopment,lin-5II,causesafailureofpostembryonicnuclearandcelldivisions.Mitosisinlivinganimalsisseenbylightmicroscopytoproceedthroughprophaseandnuclearenvelopebreakdown,butanabnormal-lookingmetaphaseplateformsinthemutant,afterwhichtheinterphasenuclearmorphologyreappearsuntilthenextattemptedroundofdivision.Theprecursorcellswhichgiverisetotheventralnervecordhavebeenstudiedinlin-5.Inthewildtypethesecellsdivideasymmetricallytogivesixdescendants(onehypodermalcellandfiveneurons).InthemutanttheseprecursorsaccumulateapproximatelysixtimesthediploidquantityofDNAwithinasinglenucleus,whileattemptingmitosisuptothreetimes.Thesepolyploidcellsdisplaycharacteristicsofthecellstheywouldhaveproducedordinarily.
