Further studies on the secondary antibody-forming potential of juvenile, young adult, adult, and aged mice☆
[摘要] Thesecondaryantibody-formingpotential(SAFP)perspleenwithinanyagegroupofmice,exceptfortheveryold,wasgreateramongdonorswithpersistingprimaryserumantibodytiterthanamongthosewithout,butthisrelationshipwasnotquantitative,norwasitapparentbetweendonorsofdifferentagegroups.TheestimatedrelativenumberofprogenitorcellsinthespleenwasdirectlyrelatedtotheSAFPofthespleen.AmongveryoldmicetheSAFPpermousewasaslowastheprimaryantibody-formingpotential(PAFP)permouse,buttheSAFPperspleenwasgreaterthanthePAFPperspleen.ThePAFPofsmallspleenswasgreaterthanthatoflargespleens.Decreaseincapacityofveryoldmicetosynthesizemercaptoethanol-resistantantibodywasmorepronouncedthandecreaseincapacitytosynthesizemercaptoethanol-sensitiveantibody.Studiesontheeffectofprimingjuvenile,youngadult,andadultmicewithanadequatedoseofantigenrevealedthatthemaximumlevelofSAFPisdirectlyrelatedtothelevelofPAFPatthetimeofpriming.Theappearanceofasignificantnumberofprimedprogenitorcellsafterprimaryantigeninjectiondoesnotprecedetheappearanceoffunctionalantibody-formingcells.Thesignificanceoftheseresultstoourunderstandingofthecytokineticsofantibodyresponseandagingofindividualsisemphasized.
