Induction and repression of a puff in Chironomus tentans☆
[摘要] InsalivaryglandsofChironomoustentanstwopuffs,I-18-CandIV-2-B,seemtobecontrolledbytheconcentrationofecdysone.Towardtheendofthemoltingperiods,IV-2-BregresseswhileI-218-Cstillisofmaximalsize.InjectionofecdysoneintooldprepupaedoesnotreinduceIV-2-B,whereasthislocusinlarvaeofallotherstagesrapidlyrespondstothehormone.HemolymphfromoldprepupaewithoutIV-2-BinducespuffsI-18-CandIV-2-Bwheninjectedintolastinstarintermoltlarvae,andthussimulatestheeffectofinjectedecdysone.Thisabilityisnotlostbyheatingthehemolymphto80°C.Hemolymphfromintermoltlarvaedoesnothaveanyeffect,whereashemolymphfromveryyounglastinstarlarvaeandfromyoungprepupaeapparentlyhasaslighteffectonI-18-C,butnoeffectonIV-2-B.TreatmentwithcycloheximideresultsinthereappearanceofIV-2-Binoldprepupae,althoughithasnoeffectonpuffingatthislocusinlarvaeofotherstages.TheeffectispreventedbyactinomycinD.Itisconcludedthatthetiterofecdysoneishighattheendofthepupalmolt.ThisimpliesthatthereisanantagonisticallyactingfactorpresentatthisstagewhichrepressesIV-2-B.Theapparentrelationshipofthisfactortoproteinsyntehsisisconsidered.
